E-invoicing in France: what the September deadline means for software publishers
IOPOLE featured in Le Figaro Partner – June 2026
Le Figaro Partner, one of France's leading business publications, features IOPOLE in its June 2026 Solutions Entreprises supplement, alongside the major transformations reshaping the French economy. It's a good moment to lay out what the reform actually means in practice for software publishers, and why the next few weeks matter.
The countdown is on
On 1 September 2026, every VAT-registered company in France will be required to receive electronic invoices through a state-approved platform. On the same date, the obligation to issue e-invoices comes into force for large enterprises and mid-sized companies (ETI). SMEs, VSEs and micro-businesses follow in September 2027.
To be clear: an electronic invoice is not a PDF sent by email. It is a structured document, transmitted and controlled through a dedicated platform, with a data reporting component sent directly to the tax authority. Three standardised formats will coexist, readable by both humans and software systems.
For software publishers, the implication is straightforward: your clients are counting on you to be ready. And being ready is not just a technical checkbox.
What the Belgian rollout taught us
In January 2026, Belgium switched to PEPPOL. The network held. But publishers who were insufficiently prepared ran into real difficulties: untested use cases, poorly covered formats, client data not audited beforehand. Friction that could have been avoided with the right technical support upstream.
France's model is even more demanding: e-invoicing and e-reporting simultaneously, routed through state-approved platforms. There is no room for fragile tooling.
In France's model, publishers carry the weight
In this chain, software publishers play a central role. They integrate the flows, expose the interfaces to end users, and bear operational responsibility for the transition on behalf of hundreds or thousands of clients.
This is exactly why IOPOLE operates exclusively B2B with publishers, never addressing end companies directly. Our role is to provide the technical building blocks that make integration reliable, fast, and compliant, regardless of the complexity of the use case.
In practice, this covers:
- PEPPOL interoperability (certified access point)
- Secure transmission of e-invoicing and e-reporting flows
- Identity verification of all parties
- White-label operation for approved platforms that choose to build on our infrastructure
We currently serve a large share of the business software publishers active on the French market, and are a white-label specialist for approved platforms.
Beyond September 2026
The reform does not stop at the French border. IOPOLE already covers 15 countries, and the European harmonisation of e-invoicing standards is well underway. Publishers who build a solid architecture for France today are giving themselves a head start on neighbouring markets.
IOPOLE supports software publishers through France's e-invoicing and e-reporting reform. State-approved platform, certified PEPPOL access point, white-label specialist for approved platforms.
